Lost your fitness mojo over the holidays? Let’s get it back – together. Simple solutions to maintain fitness.
🤹🏻 Juggling work, life and kids is tough. Particularly during the summer holidays.
If your workouts have slipped during the school holidays, you’re not alone. Routines disappear, kids take over the schedule, and suddenly, your “me time” feels like a distant memory.
Let’s just pause and say this: you’re doing your best. And your fitness doesn’t have to be perfect.
Here’s a quick guide of how to gently prioritise your wellbeing and add movement in everyday without putting additional pressure on yourself.
🌿 Schedule movement in advance.
If you can find childcare for an hour or two use that time for exercise. If you schedule it in your diary you’re more likely to do it.
20–30 minutes of walking
10-15 minutes of stretching
45-60 minute class.
🍌Movement snacking
Try short bursts of dynamic movement while you are waiting for the kettle to boil or microwave to ping. Movements like ‘monkey swings’, hip rolls, calf raises can help to move a sluggish lymphatic system and can lubricate the joints and release tightness.
10- 60 seconds! Every bit counts.
🌳Get outside with the kids - it’s free!
Wildlife Trust - nature trails
Build a den
Explore a wood
Wild swimming
Circular walks in new places.
😑Choose a workout that fits your energy and personality.
Feeling energised - Try Rockbox
Feeling overwhelmed? Try a stretch class
You don’t need to stick with the same class each time. Do what you and your body needs x
👯♀️ Make it social. Instead of meeting a friend for coffee - meet for a walk.
🔁 Mix it up. Do a few minutes of different exercises when you’ve got 5 minutes.
Resistance training - Squats, wall pushups, lunges.
Dance cardio - turn up the music and throw some shapes.
Bedtime stretching – release the knots before bed.
🧠 Remember: fitness is non negotiable for self-care. Exercise lifts your mood, boosts energy, and gives you time for you and some headspace.
🧑🧒🧒 If you would like to do a class and have older, well behaved children I’m happy for you to bring them along.
A lot of instructors are ok with this but do check first.
Most importantly make the most of the summer holidays and time with your kids. September is not too far off so when you’re ready to dip your toe back in the water we’d love to see you in back in class
