MOVE IT OR LOSE IT!
When you stop moving you seize. The less you move the more uncomfortable it gets when you do move. So you move less and the cycle continues. I know this all too well. Three years ago I had an accident that could have killed me (650kh horse trampled me leaving me with a haematoma the size of a football and a lot of soft tissue damage throughout my pelvis) and put me out of action for months. The sofa was my friend and I couldn’t move without hideous pain. Unfortunately however old injuries flared up because of lack of movement. While sitting my spine felt like it was on fire. It was incredibly painful…more so than the actual injury site. My only option was actually to move and whilst this aggregated the new injury site I pottered in the garden and pruned my bush …..don’t be rude…trimming actual plants with secateurs ! Whilst this might not seem much this movement reduced the pain in my spine. I also did some mobilisation and gentle stretching to the point where my back was much happier.
How many people think they can’t move or shouldn’t move when they are in pain….then take more rest then add more painkillers??
Always go and see a physio or soft tissue therapist if you have specific pain……It costs about £50/60 and is well worth it!! They will however advise you to MOVE.
So may people resort to painkillers and more rest for issue that can be rectified by specific exercise to strengthen/lengthen the body. Any regular movement ….30 minutes a day….be that gardening, walking, dance-fit, golf, tennis, strength training will improve your physical and thus mental well-being. A good stretch and flexibility program will help to balance the body by lengthening and strengthening those weak tight muscles.
Don’t wait until new year….don’t put it off…don’t live in pain.
See a physio….start exercising …it’s not too late to start
DO SOMETHING NOW….
BEGIN GOOD HABITS NOW !
NOT JUST NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
HIT THE NEW YEAR MOVING!
