The First Step is the Hardest

The first step on a new journey is always the hardest. If you know you need to start exercise it can be a tough first step. You may have experienced negative feelings - both metal and physical - towards exercise in the past. The first trick is to find something that you enjoy. This could be a group fitness class , team sports or a solo sport. The second tip is to find a beginners group or a class that offer mixed ability sessions. The instructor should be fully able to accommodate all levels. The third tip is not to worry about what other people think. We were all beginners once. Most people are more worried about what they look like, their coordination, wobbly bits. The fourth tip is that you are investing in yourself and your long-term health. You should not feel guilty about paying for a class and paying for help and advice of a professional. A couple of classes a week will cost less than a takeaway or lunch out. Foregoing two coffee-shop cappuccinos will easily cover the cost of a class. And you will feel better for it. Tip five - you need to make the time - Modern life values busyness above all else and many people are "too busy" to take a class, or go for a walk or continue with a sport they love. Everyone can manage 15-30 minutes five times per week and most people can schedule 1 -2 hours per week to go and take part in a class or sport. Finding time for yourself is important self care and has many psychological benefits.
