Yoga Mats - Don't but cheap from the Middle of Lidl

YOGA MATS
This is the only bit of kit that you have to bring to your Purestretch or Pilates classclass but the right mat will help you whereas a poor mat will make you struggle.
Quite quickly participants realise that the cheap mat they bought from Argos or Lidl just isn't working for them. This can be due to a number of reasons.
1. No cushioning: Causing discomfort particularly during 'pixie rolls' or elbow planks or kneeling exercises.
2: Slippery underside: Stand on the mat and go surfing - 'nuff said.'
3: Slippery topside: Unable to do standing poses without doing the splits.
4: Too thin: Unconformable to lie on - you feel the floor. Struggle to relax during meditation.
5: Too thick: More like a mattress topper. You get very little stability, particularly during standing poses.
Ideally for purestretch you should invest in a 5-6mm yoga mat that has good grip but enough cusioning to protect your joints
If you are serious about PureStretch or Pilates type classes it is well worth investing in a good mat. Put it on your birthday or Christmas list. I can source great value Yoga Studio "sticky" 6mm mats from £21. A decent mat bought from an online yoga shop one will cost £30-60 and the best mats upwards £80-100 but consider it an investment if you are going to use it regularly.
Be comfortable in your practice! Invest in your mat!
